How to Add Social Media Buttons to an Email
By adding links to your social media pages to emails you promote your brand:
- Drive email subscribers to your social media accounts;
- Improve user experience;
- Grow engagement;
- Help learn more about your product;
- Introduce people to your community.
In the eSputnik drag-and-drop editor, a social media block is a ready block that you can add to any template and edit as needed without code knowledge.
1. In Messages > Messages, open the email you want to add links to or create a new one.
2. In Content > Blocks, select a block Social and drag it to the template.
- When you drag the block to the existing structure (see image above), the structure settings will be applied to the block. You can edit them as needed.
- When you drag the block to a new structure, you have to configure the settings on your own.
3. Left-click the block to open its settings. Select the block background color in the picker or insert the code of the required color.
4. Unroll the menu with logos and select the icon design. To select icons of other chats and messengers, click +. You can also add your custom icons by uploading the corresponding images (PNG, JPG, GIF) from your computer or selecting them in the bank.
5. Click Remove to remove the social icon.
6. Enable more to enter block’s title and alt.
7. In Link, insert the link to the corresponding account.
8. Instead of a link to the account, you can select a share option. In Link, unroll the menu, go to Share and select the corresponding channel. This way, by clicking the icon the user won’t be redirected to your page but will be directed to share the email in their account.
9. The share link will be generated automatically, and you need to add an email preview link. Go to Messages > Messages, select the necessary email, click More > View in browser link and copy the link.
10. Insert the link in Email preview link.
Some social media may require additional settings.
You can add a short description and hashtags (separated by a comma, without #).
Pinterest focuses on visuals, so it’s better to add an image and description so that the user can pin it to their board.
In Email subject, add a subject that will summarize the message inside.
11. Set up alignment (separately for desktop and mobile) and indents between icons.
12. Set up padding (separately for desktop and mobile). You can set up padding for the whole block or enable More and configure each side. The maximum padding is 40px.
13. You can hide a social media block in a desktop or mobile version. The hidden block will be labeled with a special mark in the top right corner.
14. You can hide a social media block in an HTML or AMPHTML version. The hidden block will be labeled with a special mark in the top left corner.
How to Use Social Media Buttons in Emails
A footer is the most popular place to add social icons to. To stand out, consider using custom design to catch the attention of your subscriber and prompt a click.
A header is the second most popular placement for social media. By adding links in the header, you make sure the subscriber definitely sees them even if they don’t scroll down till the end of the email or if the email is clipped.
In news digests and newsletters, consider adding a share link after each article so that the subscriber can opt to share only the content they like.
Request to share
Ask your subscribers directly to share your email on their pages. The more appealing the design and content, the more chances the email has to be shared.
Send a separate email asking to join you on social media. This approach is most applicable for new subscribers. Include such an email in your welcome series and send it after a welcome or thank you email.
